2008 CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW

I thank the officials and committee for the kind invitation to judge the 24th Championship Show on Sunday 6th April 2008. It is 8 years since I last awarded CC’s in the breed in the UK. I found the deterioration in the breed disturbing. There are so many different types of dogs that do not comply with the breed standard. This deterioration is unfortunately very evident in the younger stock which is not good for the future of the breed. Serious effort must be made to correct this situation by studying how the more successful breeders continue to line breed quality balanced Shih Tzu in line with the requirements of the standard maintaining all the specific breed characteristics that make our breed so special. We must protect the future of our lovely breed. My main concerns apart from variation in type were flat tails and lack of drive. Overall front construction was no worse but the majority are still short in upper arm. Having said this I was well satisfied with the winners and do hope that the exhibitors take these comments as being constructive. The entry was 158 dogs, 162 entries and overall I thought that the bitches were stronger than the dogs. The atmosphere at the show was excellent and provided a most enjoyable day. My thanks to my stewards Mrs Farnworth and Miss Chadwick.
CLASS 12 MINOR PUPPY BITCH (8)
1. Cannons CLOUGHLEA GOOD PLAY.
Very nice gold and white. Good bone and ribbing. Super type, high set tail. Beautiful head and eye. Movement good. See she is sired by the dog CC winner. Most promising.
2. Johnsons KEYTOR MIDNIGHT WHISPER.
Very smart black and white. Lovely head and eye. Balanced outline, free movement. In good coat and condition.
3. Maules DALTRICIA ALCESTIS.
CLASS 13 PUPPY BITCH (6)
1. Flacks MIFCAHS THE B IS BACK.
Very attractive gold and white. Loved the balance of this bitch. Good head, beautiful expression, reachy neck. High tailset and strong quarters. Driving movement with good ring presence. BEST PUPPY BITCH AND RESERVE BEST PUPPY IN SHOW.
2. Linterns MINGSHU MATA HARI.
Smaller grey and white of nice type. Good body And tailset. Moved well. Winner scored on expression.
3. Gettings SURRIANNE TIARRA TEMPTRESS.
CLASS 14 JUNIOR BITCH (11) GOOD CLASS
1. Howards SONOMA MISS DIOR AT TAMERON.
Very attractive gold and white. Loved the balance of this bitch. Good head, beautiful expression, reachy neck. High tailset. Moved with drive and extension. Well presented and handled. Delighted to award her the Reserve CC.
2. Grugans JARDHU ARTE THOU MINE.
Quality gold and white of nice size. Beautiful head and expression. Super drive and extension. Very nice bitch just not the maturity of the winner today.
3. Cliffords CEDARHYTHE TARTS ‘N’ TIARAS.

Pale gold and white. Good head and skull, beautiful expression, dark wide set eyes. Moved well. In excellent coat and condition.
2. Leons SUPERLION MATINEE IDOL.
Gold and white of good type and balance, Very immature at present and front needs to tighten.
3. Paczkowskis LAURAMIST ISABELLE.
CLASS 16 NOVICE BITCH (8)
1. Doyles MATTADAM SUGAR AND SPICE.
Very smart gold and white. Beautiful head and eye giving pleasing expression. Clean front, excellent tailset and quarters. Sound, free movement. Well handled and presented.

Very deep gold and white. Balanced outline. Nice head. Would like more width in body and movement.
2. Marks TANSINGH MISS L FIRE.
Good type black and white. Sound movement not the coat of the winner.
3. Houghtons WISEOWLS CHICAGO BELL OF THINKPINK.
CLASS 19 POST GRADUATE BITCH (12)
1. Quicks BELLWAYCHARM STARSTRUCK AT MINFAA.
Quality gold and white in super coat and condition. Very good head and eye, wide jaw giving wonderful expression. Firm topline. Excellent movement with drive and extension. Tail carriage could be higher. Well handled and presented.
2. Harveys DELMARVEYS HIGH SOCIETY.
Nice black and white. Very good tail carriage. Good bone. Balanced head. Moved well
3. Goodwins CHELHAMA LOOKS THE BUSINESS
CLASS 20 LIMIT BITCH (10) VERY GOOD CLASS
1. Morriss’s TSANTHA SUNNYSIDE UP AT SAZKEY
Very good solid gold bitch. Beautiful head and eye. Correct front, good tailset and balance. Best mover in the class. In excellent coat and condition. Well Handled.
2. Bushells CASEROSE SUPER STAR Top quality gold and white. Super head and expression highlighted by the deep red face furnishings. Free movement, covering the ground well. Winner just scored on ribbing and substance. A quality exhibit.
3. Johnson's KEYTOR LOVE IN A MIST.
CLASS 21 OPEN BITCH (13) EXCELLENT CLASS
1. Crossleys CHAMPION SANTOSHA CARTE NOIR.
Top quality solid black bitch of excellent type and balance. Beautiful head and eye with wonderful expression. Correct front and quarters. Moved with drive and extension showing terrific “kick back”. In tip top coat and condition. This bitch really needs to be handled to appreciate the quality. Well handled and presented. Delighted to award her the CC and later Best in Show.
2. O’Donnels SANTOSHA SEQUENCE TO CHIARU.
I loved this gold and white. Smaller bitch than the winner. Super type and balance. Stunning head. Very good movement. Presentation first class. Seriously considered for top honours. Handled to perfection.
3. Grugans CHAMPION HIGH JINX WITH JARDHU.
CLASS 22 VETERAN BITCH (2)
1. Harveys DELMARVEYS BEAUTY QUEEN
9 year old black and white. Nice head and expression. Very short of coat at present. Moved soundly.

CLASS 9 LIMIT DOG (14) THIS WAS AN EXCELLENT CLASS
1. Crossleys YAKEE DIAMOND GEEZER AT SANTOSHA.
A young gold and white dog of top class. Superb head and expression. Good front, strong quarters excels in movement with great drive and extension. Firm topline and high set tail. Handled and presented to great advantage. Pleased to award him the Reserve CC.
2. Salts PASSIONELLE WAY OUT WEST.
Another top quality black and white in very full coat, almost too much on the quarters. Balanced outline. Very good head and eye. Firm front and with angulated quarters. Free movement covering the ground with ease. Unlucky to meet the winner today.
3. Cliffords MORENJO SMOOCHING CEDARHYTHE.
CLASS 10 OPEN DOG (13) THIS WAS ALSO AN EXCELLENT CLASS
1. Cannons IRISH CHAMPION ZIAMS MEANT TO BE FOR CLOUGHLEA
Gold brindle and white dog of great balance and type. Beautiful head and expression, strong reachy neck. Excellent front and strong well muscled quarters. Well ribbed body, firm topline high set tail. Moved with great drive and extension. In excellent coat and condition. The masculinity and great ring presence of this dog scored heavily. Delighted to award him his first CC first CC and later Best of Breed and Best in Show over a very beautiful bitch. In my opinion should have no difficulty in attaining his title.
2. Gilkes CHAMPION HASHANAH LOCK STOCK ‘N’ BARREL.
Another top class gold and white dog who has been a great ambassador for the breed. Excellent construction, very balanced outline. The head and jaw finish of this dog is first class. Correct free movement. A very worth Champion.
3. Maules DALTRICIA ARGONAUT.

1. Marks TANSINGH TENACITY.
Good fronted black and white dog 8 years old. Excellent type and balance. Nice size and in good coat. BEST VETERAN IN SHOW.

Gold and white. Nice head. Lacked drive and extension on the move and preferred tails of wInner.
3. Irvings ROSARIL RAMBLE IN’T BRAMBLE.
CLASS 7 GRADUATE DOG (2)
1. Maules DALTRICIA NARCISSUS
Good front and excellent quarters. Strong correct coat. High tail set. Moved with great drive and extension.
2. Bradshaws HARROPNE CHARLY SHEEN TO CREMEFERN.
CLASS 8 POST GRADUATE DOG (6)
1. Marks TANGSINGH SHOOT FROM THE HIP.
Loved the balance and type of this dog. Good front and excellent quarters. Strong correct coat. High tailset. Moved with great drive and extension.
2. Bradburys SHANTRIONNA SEVENTH HEAVEN JW.
Balanced gold and white of good breed type. Good head and beautiful expression. Correct tailset and very sound movement, not quite the drive of the winner on the day.
3. Stirzakers MYLUROSE CLASSICAL BLUE.

Gold and White of good bone and substance. Pleasing head, wide jaw, good expression. Well balanced outline, high set tail. In excellent coat and condition.
2. Bowens SYMARAJU TRIGGER A TORNADO AT BISBOW.
Black and White, excellent bone and substance good head, wide jaw. Sound movement but winner just scored on drive on the day.
3. Walshs CLOUGLEA TRIPLE POWER OF SILVEROSS.

1. Gettings SURIANNE MIDNIGHT MAGIC.
Very balanced black and white. Good head and eye. Correct front, good quarters, high tail set, very sound movement. In good coat and condition. Best Puppy Dog and later Best Puppy in show. Should have a good future.
2. Linterns MINGSHU MAN ON A MISSION. Grey and white of good type and balance. Good head. Presented in good coat. Moved with drive and extension but a little close at the back on the day.
3. Goodwins CHELHAMA GRANDE FINALE.
CLASS 3 JUNIOR DOG (8)
1. Leons SUPERLION LEPRECHAUN.
Gold and white of excellent breed type, well balanced outline. Very good head and expression. Correct front, good topline and excellent tailset. Moved with drive and extension.
2. Doyles MATTADAM TOUCH OF CLASS.
Good dog of excellent balance and type. Beautiful head and expression. Well ribbed body strong quarters. Very sound movement. Ran the winner close.
3. Dorran and Flacks HUXLOR FANTASY FLYER.
